Best Accredited TEFL Course 2026: 13 Courses Compared

Cambridge CELTA is the best all-round TEFL qualification, accepted by the widest range of employers, but it costs around £1,900. For teaching online, the best value per dollar is TEFLmasters' $29 Online Specialist course: about $0.24 per course hour, with online teaching in every unit, OTCAC accreditation, CPD verification and a QR-verified certificate. If you want a tutor and 12 months to finish, TEFLmasters' $49 Premium course is the best value at about $0.41 per course hour. IntrepidTEFL's $27 course is the cheapest accredited option.

Not necessarily. Many big-brand courses cost several hundred dollars partly because of advertising. Compare accreditation, hours, assessment, support and how employers can verify the certificate, not just the price.

A Level 5 is a higher, Ofqual-regulated qualification, and some employers and visas ask for it by name. Most online and entry to mid-tier jobs ask for 120 hours, so you only need a Level 5 if the job advert says so.

CELTA is excellent if you're aiming for the British Council, many European schools or a long-term TEFL career. It's intensive, includes observed teaching and usually costs well over $1,000, so for entry-level jobs an accredited 120-hour course is often the better value.

Check that the accreditor is named, independent and lists the course on its own website. Look for reference numbers, then look the provider up yourself rather than using a link the provider gives you.

IntrepidTEFL's $27 course was the cheapest accredited 120-hour course we compared, followed by TEFLmasters' 120-hour Online Specialist at $29, which is accredited by OTCAC and comes with a QR-verified certificate. Cheaper deals exist, but they're often not independently accredited and their certificates can be hard for employers to verify.

Most care that the certificate is from an accredited course of at least 120 hours and that they can verify it. Some ask for CELTA, DELTA or Level 5 by name, and they say so in the job advert.

For most online and entry-level jobs abroad, an accredited online course is accepted. In-person courses add observed teaching practice, which some employers prefer. On TEFLmasters courses from $49 up, you can add Practical Demos, where a tutor gives feedback on your recorded demo lessons.

120 hours is the standard most employers ask for. Choose 168 hours if you'll teach children, or 220 hours if you also want Business English or a broader training profile.

CELTA and Trinity CertTESOL are Ofqual Level 5 qualifications with observed teaching practice, and they're accepted by more employers, including the British Council. They also cost around £1,450 to £1,950. TEFLmasters is an accredited online course from $29 that suits around 95% of entry to mid-tier TEFL jobs.

On 10 October 2026, IntrepidTEFL's 120-hour course was $27 with 6 months to finish, Premier TEFL's was $175 on sale with optional live Zoom classes, and TEFLPros Plus was $900 with weekly live coaching. TEFLmasters' $49 Premium course includes a tutor and 12 months to finish.

The course price divided by its hours. It's a simple way to compare value across courses of different lengths and prices, but it doesn't measure quality on its own, so check what each course includes too.
